The Backstory

The Backstory

Your Life Matters came about during the very early morning of June 10th, 2015, under the name We Are Not Just Friends, We Are Family. A few friends of mine suggested to me a couple weeks before then to make a page separate from my other page I have on Facebook (Colleen’s Martial Art Corner). So, very early Wednesday morning on June 10th, I created We Are Not Just Friends, We Are Family with martial artists in mind, for I myself am a martial artist. During a conversation I had earlier in the day, it was suggested I broaden the page, since I already had a martial art page, which did make sense. But I didn’t know what to broaden it to.

Monday, June 15th, 2015, the page officially became a community page with a focus on martial artists against bullying, because that’s what saved me. I have been a victim of bullying since I was a kid in grade school all the way through to my first high school. I know what that feels like; it’s not a good feeling. It makes victims want to kill themselves, and as a family who loses a loved one to it, it makes me wonder does the bully have a conscience knowing the hell they put that victim through? Does that bully ever grow up with any feelings of regret, or are they still a bully to this day?

Near the end of 2015, I changed the name to Your Life Matters, because it was suggested I change the name We Are Not Just Friends, We Are Family. Some people did not understand the concept of that page name. I did not realize there were other pages with the name Your Life Matters until after I had changed it, and it was brought to my attention.

At the end of August 2016, the Your Life Matters Facebook Page became Your Life Matters Anti-Bullying Foundation. If it were not for Ray Higdon’s coaching program I have been in since March 3, 2016, Your Life Matters Anti-Bullying Foundation would have never been created or established.

In the beginning of July 2017, Your Life Matters Anti-Bullying Foundation became Your Life Matters Empowerment Alliance, Inc. (with the help of Ted Edlich, SCORE, the SBDC in Roanoke, V. A., and the Alliance’s new advisor, Ty Howard), so as to empower those bullied victims to feel better about themselves and improve themselves so they can have a better future. They deserve a life of freedom from bullies.
